SDA’s are a Blue Zone Community

Blue Zones are regions of the world where people live longer and healthier lives than average. SDAs vary widely in our racial, ethnic, and cultural backgrounds yet as a group, we live up to a decade longer than most people. Here, we will explain why this happens.

Ellen White wrote that eating too much sugar posed a bigger problem than eating meat.

In 1870, Mrs. White wrote an article published in her Testimonies series number 18 that went into detail about the health risks from eating "large quantities" of sugar.  "From the light I have, a large use of sugar is more injurious than meat." [T18 24.1]. It is common knowledge that rates of colon cancer have [...]

Christians debate if Jesus turned the water into fermented wine… or was it grape juice?

With help from Google's AI assisting my own internet research, I've discovered a few things.  In today's language wine, by definition, is fermented grape juice. But- and anyone can look this up- the term "wine" used in the King James Version of the Bible (upon which modern versions are based) referred to both non-alcoholic as [...]

She said eggs were good, scientists said they were bad. The scientists were wrong.

In the mid-1900's, scientists discovered cholesterol in the arteries of men who'd had heart attacks.  Realizing that egg yolks are rich in cholesterol, by the 1960's they were recommending that eggs be cut from our diets.  This confused me, because I recalled an EGW statement that, for most people, eggs from healthy and "suitably" fed [...]

People are only now beginning to understand this, but long ago EGW said many illnesses begin in the mind.

Ellen White wrote that, "Sickness of the mind prevails everywhere.  Nine tenths of the diseases from which men suffer have their foundation here" [Testimonies for the Church 5:442 (1897)], and "A great deal of the sickness which afflicts humanity has its origin in the mind..." [Testimonies for the Church 3:184 (1872)].  I heard my mother [...]

She understood how to stay healthy before physicians did

The American Cancer Society links nearly half of adult cancer deaths to using alcohol, eating an unhealthy diet, getting too much sun, being overweight, being inactive and to smoking cigarettes. In the 1800's, tobacco was thought to improve health and well-being.  Meat was considered a mark of a good diet and consuming only limited amounts [...]

EGW taught us how to love and appreciate beans

Ellen White kept a garden and loved growing beans, peas, and lentils in it.  She served beans for her family at every meal, "well cooked with a little salt and a tablespoonful of sugar, which makes them more palatable" as she understood their health benefits and used them as a protein rich replacement for meat. [...]

EGW was way ahead of researchers in understanding our need for sunlight

Mrs. White had a lot to say about the benefits of sunlight.  She described it as "one of nature's most healing agents.  It is a very simple, therefore not a fashionable remedy, to enjoy the rays of God's sunlight...", and "sunlight is one of the best tonics and beautifiers in the world; therefore, men, women, [...]
