Blue Zones are five regions or population groups where people typically live longer, healthier lives than others. Seventh-day Adventists living in Loma Linda, California make up one of these groups. While four of the zones consist of people who share a similar cultural background, the Adventist zone is made up of people from widely diverse racial, ethnic and cultural groups but their shared lifestyle practices help them experience a level of good health and longevity that is remarkable. Adventists outside of Loma Linda also tend to live and age in ways that are healthier than most. Ellen White introduced the practices used by most SDA’s throughout the world, and we will explore how fresh air, sunlight, physical activity, a plant-based diet, avoidance of tobacco and alcohol, and strong social ties help us to remain Blue Zone members.
